If you’ve never made homemade tzatziki before, this is your sign. It’s creamy, bright, garlicky, and instantly makes everything taste better. I love keeping a batch in the fridge for bowls, wraps, grilled veggies, or as a dip with warm pita — it’s one of those simple sauces that feels fancy but takes 10 minutes.

And the best part? It’s made with just a handful of clean ingredients.

What you’ll need for this recipe:

  • 0% Greek Yogurt: Thick, creamy, and packed with protein. This is my favorite brand.
  • Cucumber: Adds freshness and crunch. Make sure to squeeze out excess water so your tzatziki stays thick.
  • Lemon Juice: Brightens everything up and balances the garlic.
  • Garlic: The bold flavor moment. Adjust depending on how garlicky you love it.
  • Fresh Dill: The classic herb that gives tzatziki its signature flavor.
  • Mint (Optional): Adds an extra layer of freshness. I love adding it in the summer.

How to Make Tzatziki

  1. Grate the cucumber. Use the large holes of a box grater. Place the grated cucumber in a clean kitchen towel or paper towel and squeeze out as much liquid as possible. This step is key!
  2. Remove excess moisture. Place grated cucumber in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out as much liquid as possible. This step ensures a thick and creamy tzatziki.
  3. Mix the base. In a medium bowl, combine Greek yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, dill, olive oil and mint (if using).
  4. Fold in the cucumber. Stir the drained cucumber into the yogurt mixture until fully combined.
  5. Season. Add salt to taste and adjust lemon or garlic if needed.
  6. Chill. Let it rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to come together.
